Introducing simpler video editing packages and animated videos by VDOMKR

Challenge accepted.

With more customers pushing us to make unique, engaging videos to help them stand out in the crowd, we've decided to shake things up. After producing a number of "off script" videos outside of our standard product offerings, we decided to shift our packages to be more in line with what our customers want, at a price they can afford. Coupled with our dead simple collaboration process, our new editing and animation packages were born!

New simple, affordable video production packages:

  • Basic Montage
  • Scripted Video
  • Animated Video

This new lineup allows you to craft the project you want, using only the tools you need, at the right price.

The Basic Montage package allows you to use your own footage to create a beautiful visual story complete with awesome titles, transitions, and music.

Looking for something a little more complex with a specific message? Our Scripted Video package is perfect for those looking to add a voice over or some stock footage to beef up your existing content.

Finally, a custom Animated Video option is now available to create animated explainer videos or interactive product demos.

And to quote the forever innovative Mr. Jobs - "one more thing..." In addition to these new packages, we are now offering a Social Teaser option on all our videos. This is a totally separate video that features footage from your main video in a shorter, punchier trailer to share across social channels to engage and excite your audience.

We are super excited about this new lineup and can't wait to help you make awesome video content! Still don't see where your project fits? Reach out and we can make it work.

Introducing New Editing Packages and Storyboards

Spring is an exciting time of year when children are frolicking and flowers are blossoming.

And it’s no different here at VDOMKR where we continue to blossom.

After a year of tinkering and one cold snowy New York winter, we are proud to announce a new product line up that allows customers to choose a specific type of video to best suit their needs.  No longer based on video length, we now provide VDOMKR customers with a number of editing packages based on video type.   Additionally, the new packages come equipped with customized project storyboards to make the video making process even easier.

From Crowdfunding to a Family Vacation, you can now choose an editing package based on the type of video you want to create.  Our goal is to give you complete creative control in the video production process while making it as simple as possible to make great video.  These new tools make it easier than ever to be your own director by providing a basic outline specific for your video type.  You have the flexibility to follow our guideline or run away with it, but at least you now know where to start.  Click here to learn more and see for yourself.

Don’t see your video type? Worry not! For we will be launching more over the next few weeks, so check back soon!

4 Steps to Simplify Video Production

“I know video is important, but I just don’t have the time”

“I have a great idea for a video, but the process seems daunting”

These are the types of comments we hear all too frequently, but we believe creating video doesn't need to be as intimidating as you might think.  By planning and leveraging the right tools, it’s possible for you to produce great video for yourself, your brand and your business.

Our goal is to simplify the process by breaking down video production into easily digestible steps.

  • Plan
  • Shoot
  • Edit
  • Enjoy & Share

Planning, when you have the right tools, can be fun and easy.  Start by watching videos.  No, the whole process isn't that easy, but watching videos with the idea that you can create something similar with your brand will help you dissect it and then apply it to your own video.  Write down your goals and audience for your video.  What do you want to achieve with a video?  What kinds of emotions do you want your audience to feel?  Whether you’re selling a product or giving your fans a behind-the-scenes look at your business, having clear objectives will help convey your message and stimulate emotions from your audience.

You can’t capture what you don’t film

Still not sure how to get started?  Try visualizing what you want in terms of shots, key players, script, etc. and just start filming.  You can’t capture what you don’t film, so don’t be nervous behind or in front of the camera.  You never know what you might capture or what will inspire you, so play around with it and most importantly, have fun with it!

Watching videos online and playing with a camera should stimulate some of the creative juices.  If you’re still having trouble, try using the VDOMKR Shooting Guide.  This 1-page guide is a useful tool for both the planning and shooting phases of your project that will help you capture quality footage.

So, now you've got some footage and a vision for your video.  Now what?

Editing is the most painful and time consuming step.  Luckily you don’t have to worry about that part; we've got you covered.  Let us match you with a professional editor that specializes in your type of video and they will take care of the rest.  Simply upload your raw footage and any other media or directions you would like and the editor will send you a rough cut of your video.  Gather your team to review and provide feedback to ensure your video is fully customized and suits your needs.

That’s it, you’re done!  See, that wasn't so bad, was it?  Your polished, professionally customized video is now ready to be shared to your fans, your employees, strangers on social media, your neighbor’s cat or whomever you want!

But What If I Can’t Afford a Video For Thousands of Dollars?

Introducing our first guest blog post! This one comes from our friend Brian @ SeaSites, a leading video production company in Connecticut.

We recently spoke at a conference on tourism. The topic was "How To Use Video To Market Your Business". Noticed there are many small companies out there whose businesses could benefit tremendously from video content, but may not have a lot of money to spend on the production. So I decided to write this.

One of the best ways to help companies market their brand, increase awareness, and get their message out is through video. No one needs to be convinced anymore that video is arguably the most powerful form of marketing for most businesses.

But, there are millions of small businesses who can't afford to hire Wieden+Kennedy to create and produce their videos. For most businesses starting out, a few thousand dollars for video production is still a huge stretch. Not to mention the need to be creating new content regularly. So the question is, how does a business with a limited budget create videos?

How to create videos without spending thousands of $:

  • College or High School Students: Find college or high school students in the film industry who are looking to build their portfolio. Network through friends or search on craigslist.
  • Wedding Videographers: Many times you can find young wedding videographers who are also looking to build their portfolio/business and have very reasonable prices. Wedding videographers are incredibly hard workers and usually have a taste for quality work. Their businesses may be seasonal and are looking to pick up projects in the off season. Google wedding videographers in the area you live.
  • Do It Yourself: Buy a consumer grade camera for less than $1,000, learn how to use it and you’ll never have to pay anyone to film for you. We financed our first camera through best buy. It’s the “teach a man to fish” theory. Plus you can visit YouTube University and learn how to operate the camera.
  • Editing: Purchase the Adobe Creative Suite editing software for $50 a month and teach yourself how to edit. I understand this will take a lot of time and effort, but it's a great way to limit the cost.
    • There are editing resources like VDOMKR where you're able to upload raw video footage along with how you’d like the video edited. They have a network of professional editors and will create you a high quality video for a reasonable cost. This includes, graphics, music, and many more features.
  • Amateur Style: Use your smartphone. This is pretty much why Youtube, Instagram, and Vine exist. Create a short informational video that's relevant to your business and that you think will add value to your customers. Don’t be too concerned about having a high quality production video on these platforms. Just create content you think your target demographic will enjoy and see what happens.

I blinked and a year went by.

That was an entire year??  Just 12 months ago we started with an idea and a mission.  One year into this venture, we are so excited by the response and excitement VDOMKR has received.

What started as a basic website offering video editing services has expanded over the last year to include Add-ons to enhance the creativity and professional quality of our customer’s videos.  The challenges we faced over the last year pushed us to grow into areas we didn’t expect.  We ventured into weddings, animated video and even commissioned original music!  In the near future, we plan to offer even more options and improvements to help customers make great video on any budget.

In 2014 we had a popular booth at New York Tech Day, where we were pictured on Fox Business News TWICE!  We won tickets via General Assembly to TechCrunch Disrupt (one of the most prestigious startup events) and presented at the Loyola Venture Community meeting last Spring.  We’ll be attending more events this Winter and Spring, so come out and see us!

As we said last January, this is only the beginning.  We still feel we are only just getting started on our mission to bring easy-to-use technology to the video production workflow making professional quality video achievable for any size business or personal project.

Stay with us.  This is a fun ride.

Special thanks to some of our favorite clients and partners this year.  Check out these awesome companies and projects!

This is where the magic happens.

This is where the magic happens.

We all know the power of a great video. We’ve all experienced a video that has moved us emotionally. Maybe it made you buy something, maybe it made you get involved in an organization, maybe it changed your entire outlook on life. Either way, those videos, which you were just sitting and watching, made you physically do something. That’s the power of video.

But it doesn't start there...

Boost your Vlog: Simplify with the Pros

Vlogging (Video Blogging) has become a popular medium for sharing stories, talking about your ideas or just documenting daily activities.  It takes your audience beyond the text of a blog post and provides them with engaging video content to better convey your message. The key to any Vlog is consistency.  Whether you want to post daily, weekly or monthly, you always want to have a consistent look and feel for your viewers. One of our favorite filmmakers, Casey Neistat (YouTube Channel), does regular vlogging through Snapchat, which provides a great platform for quick, short videos.  However, if you want something a little more polished, and permanent, you may need to opt for something like a YouTube channel or website.  In doing so, there are many things you should do to up the quality of your video content.

For most people, writing and creating the content is their passion and focus.  Post-production is probably not in your wheelhouse if you are vlogging about the latest makeup trends or home renovation projects.  So, here’s where VDOMKR comes in!  We want you to focus on what you know best and let us help get your videos ready for your audience without the headache of editing.

Today we are launching a subscription based service for vloggers making multiple videos a month.  With this subscription you get access to the same editor every time, so your videos all have the same look and feel, and you get to build a better working relationship with a professional editor.  You also get a 15% discount on every video you do.

More details and features will be added to this service as we continue to grow.  For now, contact us if you have questions or are interested in setting up an account.

Make better video. Make more video!

I need video, but where do I start? - 3 Basic Steps

That's the most common question we get.  Today, everyone understands the power of video.  Whether you have a product or brand to represent or just a great story that needs to be told, you know how valuable video is to convey that message.  But where do you begin?  How do you actually get the right footage?  Here are 3 basic steps to get you started.

Idea: Ok, so you have a great idea.  Now write it out!  Use a storyboard to think through the flow and write out the script.  Read it aloud.  Make adjustments.  Planning will help ensure your video clearly and concisely articulates your message.  Most importantly, have fun with this phase!  No idea is bad in the beginning.  As the creative juices get flowing, you never know what brilliant tagline or opening scene you will think of to grab your audience.

Shooting: Now on to the more technical stuff.  There are a few things you will need in terms of equipment and setup.  All VDOMKR customers get a Custom Production Checklist for their projects once they sign up for an editing package, but here are a few basics:

  • HD Camera with plenty of digital storage space (extra SD cards are always a good idea)
  • Tripod
  • Good lighting (bring your own or use that big bright thing in the sky!)
  • Microphone (especially if there is a lot of background noise at your shooting location)

That's basically it.  Scouting your location ahead of time for things like power outlets, optimal time for natural light and noise are always a good idea.  Do a test shot and then take a look at that shot from your TV or computer to make sure everything looks and sounds best.

BONUS TIP: Use a secondary camera like a mobile phone or GoPro to get auxiliary angles/shots.  This is particularly effective in interview style videos to add visual change to the video, rather than just a single camera shooting a single subject.

Post-Production: If you are reading this on the VDOMKR blog, well you know what I'm going to say here.  Use VDOMKR to edit all your gorgeous footage into a professional looking video!  Select one of our editing packages, choose any add-ons you wish and check out!  Your video will be edited by one of our amazing editors and be ready in just a few days.

Have questions about shooting video?  Contact us on Twitter, Facebook, email, carrier pigeon, whatever!  We would love to help you get started and ensure your production comes out exceeding your expectations.

Make Better Video!

That's our mission.  Make Better Video.  And that's what we're doing.

Today we are excited to announce new Add-ons to help make your projects shine!  With Add-ons, like Professional Voice-Over, Animated Graphics and more, we are expanding our services to allow more people to make professional quality video on a budget.

Add-ons are available through our new Make Video page and can be added to your project at any time.  Have tons of footage from an event or game?  No problem!  Drop the Extra Footage Add-on into your cart and your editor will be able to go through it all to choose the best clips for your video.  Check out the Make Video page for full details.  We'll continue to expand our Add-ons selection in the future, so come back often and feel free to make suggestions anytime!

That's not all we've been up to.  We had an incredible day at NYTechDay last week.  The energy was amazing and we met tons of great people.  It was exciting to share our vision and to hear such positive feedback from the community!  We were even on Fox Business News! Check out the video recap from the VDOMKR booth!

Next week Matt will be attending TechCrunch Disrupt courtesy of General Assembly who chose VDOMKR out of hundreds of startups to attend the event!  Very exciting!  Thanks GA!

As always, keep in touch on Twitter & Facebook for all the latest updates.  Know someone looking for video?  A friend launching a Kickstarter project that needs video help?  Send them our way!

The excitement is building!

We made some big moves over the last month!  Our applications have been submitted to both TechStars sessions in Chicago and Austin as well as an accelerator in Cincinnati called The Brandery.  These are very unique opportunities for us and we can’t wait to see what happens next!

In addition to submitting these applications to incubators and accelerators, we are also very excited to announce that we will have a booth at New York TechDay on April 24th, the largest startup event in the world!  We will be giving away free VDOMKR swag and chatting with anyone and everyone to help spread the word!  Come by and check us out!

We had the opportunity to meet fellow Loyola University alum Chris Dessi who gave us some really great feedback and advice on social media.  Chris has proven his success in social media with his company Silverback Social and was extremely inspirational to us and the Loyola Venture Community.

While spreading the word and growing the brand, we have also been busy improving the current operations of VDOMKR.  Thanks to Wiredrive, our cloud workflow tool is fully functional and accepting new projects.

So that’s what we’ve been up to, but where are we heading next?  We are actively looking for partnerships and people to get involved to help make our vision come to life.  From UI/UX experts and web/mobile developers to investors and customers, we continue to encourage the discussion with everyone who feels inspired about our dream.  All are welcome and we can’t wait to chat!

This is only the beginning

Wow!  What a month!  It’s only been 4 weeks since we launched the Beta site for VDOMKR to start testing some of our ideas to make better video in the open market.  The response has been incredible and we are so excited to deliver truly exceptional products and services for video in the near future.

So, what have we been up to?  Right now we are testing our core editing service with some pilot customers and on-boarding professional video editors to fill out our roster.  If you are interested in applying as an editor or know someone who might be, send an email to

What’s next?  We are pursuing what seems like a thousand directions at once, which is the nature of a startup.  There is never any shortage of things to do.  From basic functions like registering our Trademark and setting up business functions to diving head first into some R&D on exciting new products and services, we are certainly keeping busy! Stay tuned for more announcements coming soon via our Twitter page (@VDOMKR).

New Year, New Company

VDOMKR (pronounced “Video Maker”)

Today we begin what we hope is a fun, challenging and productive journey. With VDOMKR we want to enable creative minds to turn ideas into realities.  Our goal is to provide the tools and resources people need to produce high quality video content. The services and products VDOMKR plans to develop will inspire and enable everyone from the novice creator to experienced professional. We cannot wait to see what our customers will do with what we are building.

Now is a great time to get into this space.  Video production is becoming more and more mainstream with the increasing abilities of mobile phones shooting 1080p and over 100 million internet users watching online video a day.  More content is certainly a good thing, but now it’s time to refine.

That’s where VDOMKR comes in.  This problem of refinement, especially for professionals looking to build or maintain a brand and web presence that rises above competitors, is certainly challenging.  The New York Times recently published an article discussing some solutions for the everyday videographer.  We want to take it a step further.  VDOMKR will help you organize ideas into cohesive storyboards, shoot them armed with the skills to make your footage look great and edit your production into it’s final Primetime-ready form.  With 100 hours of content uploaded every minute to YouTube, we understand how important it is to set yourself apart from competition.

This is a journey for us as entrepreneurs that we hope is as rewarding and meaningful for those we work with and collaborate with as it is for us. Let's put our best minds together to create something amazing!
